I am not sure if CC officially supports Office 64x it but tech support has helped me several times to update the MAPI dlls so that Quantum can send emails via Outlook. These DLLs have changed a few times throughout the past few years that we have been using them. You will need to update all your PCs with the new DLLs by unregistering the old ones and adding the new ones for it to work. This can be scripted but must have admin rights to do.

Our users with Office 365 are not having this issue on their Windows 10 machine but on our Terminal Server we are still running Office 2016 64x and it is broken unless we use the fixes I mentioned before.

I agree CC will have a hard time testing all the different scenarios with all the flavors of Windows and Office and both continually updating but they must. They have the resources of CAMP and Hearst Corporation there is no excuse not to test more.

I wanted to point out after fixing this error we had another issue with Quantum freezing with no error when emailing a quote or RFQ from Quantum. The user would have to force quit Quantum to close it and could work again until they emailed out of Quantum again and it would freeze. This issue took even longer to figure out and it was the Windows Search service causing the issue. I disabled this service and the error went away. Again I have made CC aware of the issue and the fix I found and I am waiting for a bug tracker on this. There is definitely issues with 12.2.x in regards to Outlook that need to be addressed.

Guys we had this exact same issue too. I finally figured it out after weeks of suffering with it. Turn on caching for Exchange in Outlook. Just set it to a week and the error goes away. I have made CC aware of this fix and I am waiting for a bug tracker for it.

Thanks Pietro. I tried many methods to fix this including yours. Yes we are running 64x Office of the Terminal Server. The issue has been resolved and the solution was to turn of Windows Search Service. This service is not playing nice with Quantum when you send a quote and would freeze quantum with no error. I am happy with the solution but users can not search their Outlook or the server very easily without this service on. For now I will live with it but CC needs to address this issue and I am trying to get a bug tracker for it.

Also guys I would move to solid state disks in a RAID 10 Config. This is 10 times faster then any SAS drive configuration. If you want to go to bleeding edge move to an M.2 drives on a PCI-E config. We plan on moving to this with our next server. This would be 10 times faster than solid state drives as you move away from the SAS or SATA bottleneck.

Further to John’s point when you do an upgrade be sure to have CC only run Dataversion on your live schema(s) not your Test or Train schemas. This way you can copy your custom metadata from one schema to another manually or write a program to do it. When the upgrade is complete and your metadata is copied to the live schema(s) you can back up your Test and Train schemas, drop them and copy live to Test and Train and you will have all your data complete with a Test and Train schema that is identical to live.

    Billy,

I can confirm the issue is fixed in Quantum 12.2.6 running on Windows 10 Version 2004 and 20H2 (the two latest builds) and using Adobe Reader XI or Adobe DC (the latest builds with all the updates). You will still need to have Enhanced Security turned off in Adobe for it to work though. Please see attached Screenshots.

Billy we have the same issue with the two latest Builds of Windows 10. Half of our users run on a Terminal server (2012 R2) and this is not an issue on 2012 R2. The only workaround is what you have already tried as well as Scott’s solution to open a PDF in an external app. We are upgrading to Version 12.2.6 this weekend and I will post back if the issue is fixed in version 12.

    Brandon,

Specifically the modules that are unique to Version 12 are the ILS/QC Bridge and Sales Edge modules. You must be on version 12 to run either one of these. In addition the Image Server module is now “Encrypted” in version 12 and this is new. Other then that all the modules are the same except for enhancements and bug fixes. We are testing version 12.2.6 right now, expecting to go live in a week or so. I have attached the sales brief on both of the new modules for your reference. Component Control is offering trial versions of both modules until the end of the year.

I agree there should be an automated email anytime there are major bugs reported in the current version of the software. CC doesn’t have to go back to the beginning of time just current major bugs that are discovered. I receive these emails from other software companies all the time. This would also save CC a lot of time fielding calls when they are already aware of an issue.

We use RDP for our remote offices and users. We had nothing but problems with Citrix and published apps. Regarding performance RDP is faster then running Quantum locally on a PC with the proper hardware and configuration. Save yourself the headaches and go with RDP.

John we are running O365 click to run version 16.0.11328 64x with no issues. I hope an update to 16.0.11727 doesn’t break it for us. Are you guys running 64x Office?

Great instruction Pietro. We use ODAC to connect Oracle to Power BI and have used ODBC as well and find them both to be very slow. In fact most of our Queries will not load because there is too much data in most of the relevant tables like Stock or Quotes. Any suggestions on how to handle this? Thanks.

Welcome to toolbar hell that is my life. Toolbars disappearing occurs daily for my users. This issue has been going on for at least 5 years or longer. We have over 70 users and it randomly occurs to different users at different times. There is no rhyme or reason as to why it occurs and CC has no fix for it except to delete the toolbar registry key and to clear the sysuser settings in the database. All of the solutions I have tried are just temporary. Every update we go through I pray that CC has fixed it. As of version 10.10.23 it is still happening.

    Warren,

Quantum will run from any directory you setup but the client upgrade process will not work unless the users are admins. This is due to the fact that during the client upgrade process Quantum registers DLLs and non-admins will not be able to register these DLLs. Some Quantum users have a few workarounds for this but it is not easy to setup. The client upgrade is a major shortfall of the software and I wish it could be automated better.

We have switched to solid state drives in a RAID 10 configuration and have seen huge improvements in speed. I would check your SGA/PGA memory settings too as this will make a big difference in speed if it is configured properly. Component Control can help you with these settings.

Another way to go is to create a Terminal Server on the AWS cloud or another provider. Install Quantum on the Terminal server and all your users (remote and local) can RDP into the terminal server to access Quantum. Of course the costs are very difficult to figure out because your are charged based on hours and data transfer but there are AWS cost calculators out there that you can use to get a rough estimate.

Mike I think the real issue you will have there is the CPU. We run Quantum on mostly i3 and i5 CPUs and speed is an issue at times. I would buy one MINIX and test it. You might be disappointed in the performance of Quantum on such a light CPU. Regarding disk space 3GB for Oracle and 1GB for Quantum is about all you need. This doesn’t fluctuate much but I would reserve 5-6GB for Oracle and Quantum for any future updates to the software. Report back and let us know how it runs on one of those PCs.

    Brandon,

You will need to purchase the Quantum Portal product to get this to work. You will need a separate machine (physical or virtual) running Linux with the Portal software on it. Component Control will need to setup a custom query that you would give to Lufthansa to pull your data from Quantum. Once it is setup there is not much administration, it just works and is secure.

This is a daily issue for my users and every version that comes out I hope it is fixed. We are on 10.9.20 and it is still a problem. The registry delete works and is safe to do just be sure you are deleting the proper key. You can also backup that key before you delete it. There appears to be no rhyme or reason for it. Terminal server users, laptop users, desktop users they all get it. Please fix CC.

  • Sally,

You should setup a secure VPN tunnel with strong encryption using IPSec between the two sites. This is the proper way to secure communications over the Internet.

We are in the process of rolling back all Adobe DC installs to XI and will stay on that version until Component Control fixes the issue. Component Control needs to fix this soon before Adobe drops support of XI as it will be a security concern at that point.

When we test a new version of Quantum we have Component Control setup a training schema with the new release. I then setup a Terminal Server (free trial for 120 days) as a virtual server. I then install the new Quantum client on that Terminal server so that is isolated from everyone’s current Quantum client. Then I setup accounts on the Terminal server for users that need to test. We go through the list of changes that are posted from Component Control to see if they affect our daily work. Next we have users from all the departments do their day to day work in the Terminal server to simulate normal transactions to see how they flow through the new version. Users report back errors or issues at weekly meeting until we are confident with the upgrade. Once we are ready, we upgrade the live schema and drop the training schema and I delete the Terminal server. This is truly the best way to test a new version of Quantum without affecting user’s current client. It also allows users to test the two version side by side at their own desk while doing their regular work. I hope this helps anyone that is looking for a thorough way to test new version of Quantum. If you want more information let me know and I can go into greater detail.

Thank you for the updated John. What I found in our environment is that it will work for a while and then it will start having issues. Some users go on with no issues some start having issues all the time. At that point I must delete their profile on the machine and recreate it. This fixes the issue but as you might guess this takes hours to do depending on the user. Please keep me updated if any problems come up for you with DC. Thanks.

Thanks John. Can you confirm you are using Adobe DC Reader and your users do not have local admin access on their PCs or Terminal server. It appears that if you have admin privileges the issue does not happen. I have done all the suggestions already and we still have freezing, pausing and images not displaying in Quantum Imaging.

No, this is a constant ongoing bug that has never been fixed. Every version of Quantum we go to I hope it is resolved and it is not. Some users never have the issue, other users get it all the time. It is a daily or weekly occurrence for me to deal with. Most users are unable to fix this on their own so I have to remotely fix each one as they come up.

  • We deal with this issue so much that we wrote a program to kill users that are hanging in the database. Basically you need to issue an “alter system kill session” command to kick the user. You first need to identify the user’s SID and Serial number in the database then kill that user.

This is a huge bug in Quantum that we deal with daily across the company. The sledgehammer approach is to delete the sys_user_queries and sys_user_settings for that user. It fixes the problem but wipes clean any personal settings the user has for Quantum. Very frustrating solution as it takes the users hours to rebuild all their browse windows, printer settings, tool bars and other settings in Quantum.
