Other than the tables themselves which you probably need about 10 to get a decent report being careful with link direction/joins – especially for PO items that have not been received yet.

As you have stated you wish to produce a report based on raised POs.

It might be worthwhile stating what you wish to see on the report, field by field, and the basic business process you are trying to cover.

You could go off in completely wrong direction right from the start – if you are not sure.

We are on 12.5.10, have been for a while now, although going through testing on the latest production version too.

I am not aware of any serious issues on our 12.5.10 but it would depend on your modules.
We do not use Accounting etc.

Maybe worth listing your key modules with any concerns.
Also what are you upgrading from, as there maybe specific issues from one version to another.

12/13/2023 at 4:21 PM in reply to: How does one implement URL Links?

Hi Warren, we implemented this feature with CP years ago and use it extensively in Quantum.

Our CP for this was aimed at a company operating its web servers alongside Quantum.

I have to be a little careful about the information I provide on this forum for all to see but feel free to contact me directly for any information.

FYI we do not use this directly connected to Fedex/UPS/DHL – it was not designed with that in mind.
We have our web server(s) in between that processes the requests.

When you launch a URL link, it is just a customized command button, the receiving server can work out where it came from in Quantum and what you want to do, which is a very powerful tool, that has the potential to allow huge amounts of integration.

Potentially, you could initiate some URLs with existing off-the-shelf products or services, but it was not designed with that in mind.

It’s local. Quality of print is very good, although with maybe 30 Zebras being used for label printing, we could easily have one slightly off being 100%.

We could force the error by manipulating the label a little. So it only takes someone not putting the label in the best position/flat, or slight damage at some point to the label.

I am hoping that Code 128 may offer a better solution for misreads.

Fairly sure this feature we had CP done to add this a few years ago, so its not a new feature. I believe it came up in a quality audit and this was the solution for the issue of controlling these parts into the system.
Security permission 2660 is required for it, but you would still see it in Global menu, however it is also in the drop down from the Inventory button in the menu, which shows all PN/SN combinations from there.
It will flag up parts when they are received, that’s all we needed at the time.
The bigger question of expanding warnings, it would be useful.

Patch applied for this version and that fixed the issue.
    CC-4716
Noticed whilst looking at series data fixes and checks, we had a bug, maybe in a previous version prior to August 2020 or user error, probably for a year or so previously, which appeared to break the series link on Cancelled Exchange Cores and Credit/Returned Stock.

This is a confirmed bug, patch/fix to be supplied soon.
So far, I guess its only an issue if anyone uses Unknown Receipts, which not many users do.
If you do, then I would suggest checking your Series data, I use some SQL to do that if anyone feels they need it.

At the moment, on our system, it seems to be anything received in via the Unknown Receipts initially, then being Researched and converted has this issue on the stock when finalized. TBC.

Not sure I understand your issue…?
You usually do not need to print a location on the part/box label.
It is only the location itself that is barcoded with location info.
Then any part can be moved anywhere without the need to reprint a label.
Before we used barcodes many years ago, we did print locations on boxes. With barcodes that became unnecessary and a waste of time, as you only need to barcode a location & box and move things into the location. The location was removed from our labels about 10 years ago.
If you are printing a location ID on a box ( and you have the BC module) then I probably need to find a way to convince you not to do that …

We just tested 12.3.X, currently on 12.2.8.

No issues were found, we are upgrading because of reservation bug on the barcode relocations on 12.2.8.

    We don’t use Accounting.

There are some changes to Imaging (setup of it) which you will need to be aware of, although on the user interface not much/any difference to it.

Event Manager changes etc. will need careful consideration/setup/testing

All these things should have been resolved for upgrades to 12.X.

There will be more work involved/testing for 12.X. that’s all I would advise as much as anything else.

We find the Zebras need specific speed and density settings to print effectively, for thermal transfer.
Maybe whatever driver is being used is not setup.
Redirected printing maybe losing some of the tweaks/settings.
We have seen that with Citrix in the past with deployed desktops.

As far as I know, the authentication is not enabled for a shared mailbox, using the configuration options you have available in Quantum for setting up SMTP. There are some messy work arounds using authentication from another mailbox for applications, although I have never tried them as it seems too messy for supporting properly.

A standard mailbox with a license is required in general.

If you want to be sure it works properly now and can be relied upon in the future, I would suggest using a licensed mailbox.

Good practice to ensure your 365/network/firewall etc. is locked down only to allow SMTP from specific users/sources/targets too. Which you likely will do anyway, but … just in case anyone else reads this and opens up their systems to malware just for Quantum emails…. 🙂

The short cut quick receiver doesn’t have as much functionality and ability to audit anywhere.

Whenever we come across a problem with auditing or reporting on a process, we can spend a lot of time trying to report on something someone has done ‘quickly’.

Quite frustrating when researching a problem and you look for that UR and… it doesn’t exist.

The full receiving module is designed to do just that properly.

Whenever possible just don’t use a quick receiver, if I could enforce that I would… one day maybe….

We are on 12.2.8 and do not have these issues.

Although there was an issue with email that was sorted about after upgrade. Something to do with resetting Email config on the user setting, for each user it affected, in Quantum if I am remembering correctly.

We use Windows 7 and Windows 10 without an issue.

Also have around 70 staff on RDP 2012 and 2019 servers with Office 365.

Are you using 365? If you are, which build are you using?

There are so many possibly variations with versions of OS, Office and Security apps now, it must be must be impossible for CC to test these things now.

It really depends on your intended use / scope.

If you simply intend to use it for Sales Contact Management on Companies etc. then yes there probably is a better tool out there.

The strength of Quantum Contact Manager is that you attach it to almost anything in Quantum that you would want to.

You can create work flows, easy reporting, traceability and automation.

We’ve added a lot of functionality over the years as have others. It is a very powerful tool.

It might be that you have one use in mind when actually there are so many more you haven’t considered… yet …

Would definitely suggest anyone with performance issues give Oracle more memory. When our Oracle used 10GB the cache took a hit.

Oracle on ours for example runs on a healthy 50GB (Oracle usage) normally.

We no longer ever have to reboot for performance issues and lack of memory was the issue.

11g also needs careful configuration, 12c much better.

Regarding slow modules with multiple lines, definitely.

Especially PO’s, which are slow at the best of times.

That loading screen could do with being re-written with loading times in mind. There is just so much logic added over the years I guess its not an easy one to fix…

We use the API module for this and many other tasks. Its is well worth what we paid as we use it a lot.

Purchasing the API module just for images seems a bit too much.

Maybe Component Control will release light versions of the API, where you can choose specific API’s at a reduced cost, that would be more reasonable and affordable.

I can understand and fully support protecting their intellectual property, however, for many this appeared out of nowhere and the full API module cost is likely not an affordable solution just for imaging.

This has been mentioned on previous posts on v12 upgrades.

Yes imaging has changed and is controlled. I believe it is also part of the licensing now and in addition probably only supported by Component Control directly and/or an approved third party/Consultant with code.

Before anyone upgrades, they need to research this issue if they in any way access images created within Quantum – outside of Quantum.

Whoever does your upgrade might not know you are accessing images outside of Quantum, you don’t want the first time you realize that to be in production…

I.e. contact Component Control and let them know what you are doing and why, they will advise what the options are. There is no other choice available.

There are many small improvements / additions. Unfortunately just reading about them won’t allow you to appreciate it all.

The main concern would be any integrations, if they were not authorized integrations. From version 12 Quantum is more controlled in that respect. There is a new imaging server for example, which is locked down, the previous version was completely open.

Version 12 at release felt a little rushed, compared to previous version upgrades, but we have had it since Feb ’20 and the latest versions appear to be fine to use.

I can certainly appreciate the if it isn’t broken don’t fix it view.

Overall, unless there are work stoppers, like integrations, you would benefit from an upgrade. A lot of work has gone into developing Quantum for the future in v12.

Simple things like the client upgrades. On the last upgrade for us, all client installs upgraded themselves the next time the user started the application. You won’t benefit this time of course… but you would the next time you need to do any patches or upgrades.

Presentations on QueGroup from Component Control regarding version 12 might be a good place to check for features and benefits.

Assuming you have the licensing as you need it ….. and you are referring to Worthdata?

Base station is either Serial or USB, I believe it likes to run on COM2 generally on Serial, but USB seems to work on other com ports IDs too.

Make sure you know what channel the base station is set to which is a selector switch under the bottom cover. You can remove the screw(s) and check/set as needed. Worthdata do have some diagnostic software to check your base station and RF gun can communicate.

Rf.exe is the file you need to run which should be present in your Quantum program folder on the desktop computer. Login on the module when prompted.

The RF guns need to be set to the same channel as the Base station.

Then make sure each gun has a different ID. Set using menu on R/F gun.

When you turn on the R/F gun you should see it login/connect on the module window that is open. Follow prompts on the RF.

I believe you can set them to login the user or just use the login rf.exe used, we don’t login the user on the R/F gun.

RF.exe uses licenses up in Quantum. CC do a cheaper license for RF users, so worth using those if/when possible.

Make sure there are no other companies nearby using Quantum and RF as the RF (US models) have a long range. If you both use the same Channel you get interesting results/problems.

That is about it for setup…

May not be quite what you are asking for…

We usually use Flydocs for technical records. We have also started to research some automated functionality between Flydocs and Quantum. Some work has been done on that in the past, but is incomplete.

However, there is API/URL functionality for FlyDocs so I am guessing the possibilities are good.

  • Not aware of any. It would be nice to know what bugs / issues have been found before a release, which is very often too late.

For example, early release of 12.X has a bug in the new Quantum Worker. With 3 instances , this makes the CPU usage on the Oracle server go up to 95% + all the time.

This has been fixed in the latest releases. However, it would have been nice to see this was an outstanding issue. Possibly even a technical awareness email sent out to customers to make them aware.

It would have saved us a lot of time researching an issue ourselves, then having to contact tech support, to the get feedback that it is a known bug with a tracker. Hours have been lost investigating this issue and that it just one example.

We use the 7100, so not the Wifi model. They are very reliable. We have maybe 10 + of them, have had them for many years.

Only issue is after 4 or 5 years the crystal sometimes needs replacing in the units, they offer a service for that.

I can 100% recommend the 7100 series (Non-Wifi) as fit for purpose.

Only issue is the range extenders they do are really slow and its easier to setup additional base units sometimes. This is only an issue on a large site though. They can cope with a 100,000 sq ft with the base station in the middle, depending on your warehouse layout and anything that could disrupt the wireless band it uses.

I.e. if the warehouse is completely full and stacked to the ceiling, you will get dead spots, which is a bit annoying.

We are also using our own mobile app, which will eventually replace these units completely. This gets around the range issues and provides access from anywhere without a base station.

I believe CC are releasing their own mobile app to help replace these. That might be worth looking into, before you spend $$$$ on those 7100 models – they are not cheap !

I can’t comment on the Wifi model you have, I can imagine that might cause issues, which is why we have always avoided it.

It is not a finished feature yet, as far as I know.

I use the limited window feature on my personal desktop as I was doing some testing on it. I can’t share that as it is development and under CC control.

There are some bugs, actually quite a lot to consider. The navigation cache did not work. You also lose the functionality of having the open windows listed in the bottom on the main Quantum window. To be fair this was strictly POC.

At the moment, unless something has changed in the last 6 months, it is not ready for release.

Looks like every single part of Quantum where you want this to work as a window would need to be programmed and checked. That is a lot work… The idea sounds simple but the detail is a huge task…

  • If its not there now, then there is no easy way to add it.

You could request custom programming to add it from Component Control.

Depending on why you need it and how up to date you need it, you could run an SQL statement to copy the contents of the those fields into custom field on each SL, that is already available to see in the browse window (that you are not using)

As a guess, one update statement would do that for you at any point in time.

Long term, it would probably be best to CP it if you really need it.

I have also created a crystal report that you can click on the hyperlink and i have the hyperlink calculated to the file name on the image server. The user does need to have access to view the image folder on the server you would need to be careful on how you deploy that.

In Summary you can create reports that you can tell what files are linked to each module (SO/PO/WO/RC/RO ECT..) easily and just need to create what criteria you are looking for. What has helped us with our paper work is doing Audits on the required paperwork not only if there is a file but also looking at the file its self to make sure it is the correct document. If you have not liked the Image list in crystal before it is alittle tricky and if you need help let me know.

Jake, you may lose some functionality when attempting to get any information from the new imaging servers in 12.X.

The old servers become read only and you will be forced to use the new version for new files – which is not ‘open’ and I suspect you will not be able to directly connect to an image on a new server.

I used to run reports in crystal to directly bring up a picture and file information for quarantime items, with a hyperlink.

Keep this in mind if you consider the 12.X upgrade – you may get something working ….

Yes, Oracle is not cheap, the licensing changed on SE2, a lot more expensive. Finding an Oracle partner that fully understands your use case is not easy to do either.

My own personal view, I don’t see NUP (User Licensing) being the right choice unless you can guarantee who and what connects to your database(s). That is all human and non-human.

If you are going to open up a customer portal or use APIs to connect to other people/devices, then how would you get the NUP requirement right?

We purchased it a couple of years ago.

So, it is expensive, you also need to pay for a monthly maintenance fee as with any other module/add-on. It also comes with some connection licenses as far as I can remember, maybe 10?

There is a fairly large set of standard APIs available, I know we have added many over the last few years.

Maybe request an up to date list of APIs to see if they have what you want? If the list is a large as it should be now, that licence represents good value for the amount of development time (cost) within it, that’s just my opinion …

It is my understanding that Component Control do not support you making your own API’s without them or an authorized partner being part of that process.

If you do make your own unauthorized API’s you will not get any technical or upgrade support for them, as Quantum changes over time, you can expect that any unauthorized API’s could stop working at any time.

Worst case you might not notice, do an upgrade and then find things just don’t work properly. Understandably, with zero support from Component Control. Then what do you do?

That could be a risk to your business if you rely on those API’s to operate.

My mandate to developers here is that data being written to Quantum should be done via an authorized API wherever possible, always if it is a new record in a table.

Yes you can write your own or you could get an unauthorized third party to do it for you, but that will be a long term risk to your business operations that you need to consider carefully.

Yes we have the same issue. For every integration.

The argument would be that the payment made for the module does not include the user access license.

There is no issue with that – provided it is made clear when you purchase the module, that it potentially needs another $2.4k user license, not simply the module license cost

If anyone needs that let me know and I will get someone to help you.

This new imaging maybe controlled by Component Control via licensing for 3rd party access. Please contact tech support to confirm.

We already, maybe, have access/authorization via our API module, our work is also supported by a developer from Component Control.

If you are using non-approved third party support or developers, you may find you need to do something to get the required access key for this feature. This may or may not be true – I cannot be 100% on this so you will need to check…

Also worth noting all images stored on the old servers are now fully read only.

For example, if you goto a stockline with an image stored on the old server and try to delete the file/entry in Quantum, you will get a Read Only error.

So you cannot delete old image files within Quantum.

New ones are ok on the new server type.

You will need to generate an Image Access key for every request from the new imaging server.

There are some detailed instructions for this, as your code will need to deal with the old imaging and the new imaging setup.

We have been testing this new setup since Nov 2019 as we do a lot of read/write to the imaging servers.

    No problems at all.

The stock controllers love these devices for stock relocation.

We have built in the app the ability to see what they have done recently etc.

We plan to do a lot more with them, ideally get as much as possible into a mobile device of this size.

The only thing to be careful with is Red labels and black text.

The user may need to get a little closer to the label.

The barcode recognition is great with these devices, but they are not as forgiving as the Worthdata devices.

Check sheets should be created for this and signed off.

Make sure those staff testing feel responsible for what they are doing.

It is a good opportunity to make sure there is an up to date guide written for everything anyone does. It can sometimes make you question why things are being done the way they are.

We also have detailed IT only related checklists, including DR and all systems linked to Quantum.

I can’t share ours, as they contain everything about how we run our systems and business, which is not something I can share…

One important point, which I believe is mandatory, Quantum Imaging is being upgraded. So if you have any integrations with Imaging, be prepared to do some extra work.

We have alot of custom integrations with Quantum, some of which is imaging, that all needed upgrading. Ver 12.X now uses a more secure connection.

Any existing standard Quantum Imaging servers become read only forever, i.e. you cannot write to them from Quantum. So you will end up with all the old imaging locations/servers as they were and a new design for all the new images.

We have alot of CP coming with some new features…

We had to reboot the Quantum/Oracle server as it completely crashed it.

Works fine with Stockmarket turned off.

We had this issue years ago, this should not be happening, by design.

It is frustrating, an outage or maintenance on a cloud product should not take down an on premise server.

That would be great but you cannot set less than 20 seconds in the options now…

Fairly sure we have set this lower previously so maybe an upgrade has stopped that?

    Version 12.3.13

There is plenty of space around the label, in practice it is damaged labels or for example a small crinkle in the label when it gets stuck on the box. Statistically these misreads hardly ever occur, its just that even a few over 6 months is a big problem if it is a $50K unit at any time.

We are going to double check with Component Control, but it seems from our testing that the Code 39 in Quantum does not have support for the Check Digit/Checksum. If I use a mobile app on my phone and enable the Code 39 Check digit feature, the existing Stock labels with Code 39 cannot be read at all. If anyone knows any different then please do let me know.

We have already switched to Code 128 as it contains a mandatory check digit as far as we can see.
The barcode readers, existing Worth Data and Mobile apps all appear to work with Code 128 without any problems at all.

We will monitor the usage and see if there any practical problems, but no issues so far.

The main issue for us is the existing stock, is there anything we can do to make sure those Code 39 labels cannot present us with mis-reads, at the moment there does not appear to be a solution for that, my guess is the label has not been printed with anything that meets the requirement for checking.

Thanks, Warren, I will get the equipment checked in the morning. I would hope that would be enabled but it might explain the situation.

Further suggestion, open the print queue for that printer in Windows. Then Pause printing.

Send the print job to the printer and it may stay in the queue. You could then select that print job and look at the properties to see what it actually is, possibly a RAW format.

It makes no sense initially, as .RPT would not be sent to a printer.

Does it do the same from more than one client/computer?

Have you ever had this working, has it just failed now?
