There are a number of ways you can achieve what you are asking.

The question I would ask has the unit been received against the WO? If not then Ian’s way is a good method.

If you have received the items on the BOM then you can do a turn in from the WO BOM to inventory and store in lot.

Larry the assembly matrix is a method of tracking higher and lower assemblies of a component.
If you are wanting to show how many pieces are need for that component or assembly that Warren’s suggestion is the way to go by building a BOM template. This is where you can address quantities for each component and/or assembly.
You can make the BOM template Generic or Specific to a P/N. We have been making templates Generic so we can use them on like items such as Thrust Reverser models.
